The Denver Broncos are have announced the re-signing of linebacker Alex Singleton to a 3-yr $18 MM deal. The hard-working player has quickly become an integral part of the team with his impressive skill set and dedication to the game.
Singleton’s ability to read offenses and quickly react on the field has made him an explosive player that outplays his measurables. His athleticism may be lacking, he was given a relative athletic score of just 6.34 out of a possible 10. He and fellow ILB Josey Jewell are almost interchangeable as Jewell was given a 5.52 RAS in 2018.
Singletons drive and hard-nosed mentality however has earned both the trust and respect of their teammates and coaches, solidifying his position as one of the most vital members of the Broncos’ defense.
Singleton joined the Broncos in 2022 as a depth piece and special teams maven. Last season, he recorded 163 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 3 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble. According to Pro Football Focus Singleton was the teams most improved player in 2022 going from a PFF grade of 54.1 in 2021 to 79.1 in 2022.
“One of the best run-defending linebackers in the NFL in 2022, Singleton produced the eighth-highest run-defense grade at the position over the course of the season. His 62 tackles resulting in a defensive stop were tied for sixth among all linebackers, and he missed just 6.5% of the tackles he attempted.”Pro Football Focus Writer Gordon McGuinness
Singleton’s re-signing is a clear indication that the Broncos are committed to keeping a strong defense at the same level it has been playing. With the addition of several talented players in the off-season, including cornerback Tremon Smith and defensive end Zach Allen, the Broncos’ defense is poised to be a force to be reckoned with yet again in the upcoming season.Embed from Getty Images
As for Singleton, he’s excited and ready to get back on the field with his teammates. When speaking with Calgary Flames TV he stated Denver has become his new home. “[I’m] happy to stay in Denver,” Singleton said. “It’s becoming, like we were talking earlier, just [like] south Calgary. I feel right at home there.”
